Giving Back

The employees of the Chicago-area exhibit and event marketing firm, Nimlok Chicago, had survived one of their toughest business years ever and decided to give back to the community. They collected food for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. They got together with their clients and vendors to collect over 200 lbs. of food. Owners Deb Venable and Peter Crouch also decided to contribute to the cause by donating financially.

Employees of Nimlok Chicago started the idea when they saw how critical the need was at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. They felt obligated as a community business to help out. According to the Greater Chicago Food Depository there were 463,200 visits to member food pantries in November 2009, the busiest month in the organization’s thirty-six year history and an increase of 18.5% over the previous year. They support a network of 600 soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters in the Cook County area. The support of Nimlok Chicago provided an equivalent of 35,000 meals.

Deb Venable said, “We are in a much better position than many others. Providing food to others was our way of giving back. We are very happy to do it.”

In today’s economic climate we need more than ever to help one another. If more businesses would follow the example of Nimlok Chicago many more less fortunate people could be helped.
